The residential Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle (BEV) market is growing at an exponential pace in Europe, with Germany, France and the UK leading the way. The booming uptake of BEV is creating significant opportunities for energy actors. Delta-EE’s customer surveys show that BEV drivers are more engaged with new energy than average customers – for instance, they have a higher propensity to own solar and are more likely to consciously select an energy supply tariff (as opposed to accepting a default offer). It follows that there is an opportunity for energy players to develop new products that will more fully engage a new generation of motorists. Residential Electric Vehicle (EV) propositions could help suppliers:
- Reduce churn & attract new customers
- Extract more value e.g., by cross-selling products or by using the flexible capacity of BEV charging to hedge better
- Future-proof their business – especially relevant to companies facing an existential risk, such as oil majors
